500 years of blood, bombs and bravery!
HOW DO YOU TELL A STORY THAT HAS NEVER BEEN TOLD BEFORE? ONE THAT SPANS OVER 500 YEARS. REACHES EVERY CORNER OF THE GLOBE. INVOLVES NUMEROUS WARS AND PRODUCED A MILLION TALES OF HEROISM AND TRAGEDY.
The ‘Soldiers & Chiefs’ exhibition tells the story of wars fought both in Ireland and outside Ireland. How the Irish fought in the British army to spread the Empire across the globe, on both sides in the American Civil War and for the interests of the Spanish, Austrian and even the Russian empires – in short, they fought everywhere and everyone at anytime.
UNOFFICIAL, UNTOLD, UNBELIEVABLE
This was a previously untold story. It is also a vast and wideranging one. The biggest exhibition that the National Museum of Ireland had ever attempted to mount and one that took years to assemble.
It had to be accessible to someone who had an hour to spare, someone who wanted to spend a day at the exhibition and someone who wanted to come back over a week. History buffs, pensioners, school children, educators, experts, and casual interested parties all had to be engaged.
